Meet & Alumni Weekend
The Bulldogs finally had the opportunity to dust
off the cobwebs from their racing suits and step on the blocks to compete
against each other in the annual Purple/White Intersquad meet on Friday, October
5th. The friendly competition brought out some spectacular swims by
both sides. The majority of the returning swimmers were able to swim
significantly faster at this meet than in years past. The meet saw four wins by
newcomers to the program. Many NCAA “B” standards were achieved at this
informal meet. In the end, both men’s and women’s White teams were victorious. The White men defeated the Purple team with a score of 122-79. The women’s meet came down to the final two events and the White women were able to hold off the Purple team by one point to win 102-101. It was definitely an exciting way to begin the 2007-2008 season.
After competing against each other, the
men’s and women’s teams united to compete against the former Truman/NE
Missouri State Bulldogs in a for-fun mock meet the following Saturday. The
current swimmers raced their hearts out, but the crafty veteran’s proved to be
too much for the varsity team. It was impressive to see how many Alumni came
back for the meet. Following the meet, all of the swimmers, alumni, family and
friends had a cookout at Thousand Hills State Park. The food was delicious and
the atmosphere was that of a family reunion. To top it all off, we couldn’t
have asked for better weather.
I was extremely excited to see the turn out that we had for the Alumni
Meet. It is something that I would like to see year in and year out. All of the
current swimmers had the opportunity to put faces to the names on the record
board. We were also able to announce the inaugural class of the Bulldog Swimming
Hall of Champions that is listed on this website. We are looking forward to many
great alumni weekends to come. The teams are back in the pool and working extremely hard for the current season. The first official meet of the year will be a double dual meet at Springfield, MO, against the host school, Missouri State, and Delta State University. The meet will begin at 1:00pm on October 20th. Two weeks later, the Bulldogs will be home competing against the University of Indianapolis in a two day dual. It will be an action packed weekend with both teams competing hard in virtually every swimming race. We hope to see you at the meets. Go Bulldogs! |
