Truman Swimming Hall of Champions

We would like to thank the alumni and fans that elected this, the inaugural class of the Truman Swimming Hall of Champions.

Class of 2007

Mary Blandford ('96)

Bryna (Busch) De La Piedra ('01)

Mike Hoskovec ('00)

Swimming for the Bulldogs from 1996-2000, Mike finished out his last two years on the team serving as Team Captain. He graduated with a BS in Biology and is currently working as a chemistry teacher and the head swim/water polo coach for Stratford High School in Houston , Texas . Mike is married to another former Bulldog swimmer, Jennifer (Malone) Haskovec. They have a one-year-old girl, Anna. Since graduating, Mike has worked as an environmental scientist, ran a marathon, and coached Texas High School state champion.

During his swimming career at Truman, Mike swam on a national qualifying relay, qualified first in prelims in the 200 Fly at nationals his freshman year, and swam team record times in the 200 butterfly, 500 freestyle, 200 and 400 individual medleys, 400 and 800 freestyle relays, and 400 medley relays. He's a five-time All-American in the 200 butterfly ('97, '00), 200 individual medley ('99), and 400 individual medley ('99, '00).

Mike's favorite out-of-pool memories on the team include the guy's team preseason hangout at the rock quarry, "Punswick completing the spectrum at Ryle," and team gatherings after arriving home from South Dakota dual meets early in the morning. Topping Mike's swim team highlights is "meeting my closest lifelong friends and especially my wife."

Katie (Weyforth) Vanlandingham ('98)

Katie graduated in 1998 with a degree in Business Administration. She was a member of the Bulldog swim team all of her four years at Truman. Katie is a five-time All-American in the 200 backstroke ('95, '97, '98), 100 backstroke ('98), and 200 individual medley ('98). She is a five-time Honorable Mention All-American as well, in the 100 backstroke ('95, '97), 200 backstroke ('96), and 400 individual medley ('97, '98). Her highest place at nationals was a third place finish in the 200 backstroke her senior year.

Katie lives in Arlington , Virginia with her husband, Andy Vanlandingham. The two were married in May 2005.

After working in advertising in Kansas , Katie moved to Washington , DC and worked on Capitol Hill for Senator Sam Brownback. Katie is currently working as a lobbyist for Capitol Associated, Inc., a government relations firm. She represents clients and their interests before the Senate, House of Representatives, White House, and various Federal agencies.
